Today in history: March 5, 1963. American country music stars Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and their pilot Randy Hughes are killed in a plane crash in Camden, Tennessee.

Today in history: March 4, 1917. Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives. This is noteworthy for the fact that women would not receive the right to vote until 1920.
