Most of the time appreciation for your hard work will be unseen by some and snubbed by many.

Remember why you do this.
Remember who you do this for.

Keep pushing.

The only appreciation you need is from those that matter to you.

We’re not the enemy, but we’re the ones standing there when the rage needs somewhere to land..

We didn’t cause the bad call.
We didn’t make the patient die, the kid suffer, that family scream at you, or make the system fail you.

But we’re here.
We’re their safe place.
We won’t report them, ridicule them or judge them like the public would.

So when the anger looks for a place to go-and it finds us.

We get the tone that snaps without warning.
We get silence that feels like a punishment.
We get treated like we’re one more problem when they’ve already had too many.

Not because we deserve it- but because we are the ones there when the pressure finally becomes too much.

The job taught them to bottle it up.
The rigs taught them to stay sharp and aggressive.
Home is where the armor can finally come off-and sometimes, often times the damage shows.

We understand why it happens.
But understanding doesn’t make it okay.

Because when we become the outlet for rage that doesn’t belong to us, the job begins to hurt more than just the responder.

At the end of it all…

We can love them.
We can support them.
We can respect what they do.

It’s not easy being the spouse of a first responder. We don’t do it because we have to—we do it because we chose them. We chose to love them and to stand beside them, even in the darkest storms.

Loving a first responder means living in two worlds.. One thats filled with pride, purpose, and honor. The other filled with missed holidays, silent phones, and prayers whispered into the dark. We celebrate the wins quietly. We carry the weight they can’t unload. We learn to be strong when we’re exhausted, calm when we’re scared, and patient when we’re lonely. The good days remind us why this life matters. The hard days prove how much is costs. Behind every first responder is a family holding it all together— loving harder, waiting longer, and standing strong when no one is watching.
