Marietta Memorial Hospital Corp. was formed in 1921 by a group of local citizens who saw a need for a large, centralized health care center in the community. The undertaking would be a memorial to Washington County residents who lost their lives in World War I, these pioneers decided. A massive community fundraising and organizational campaign came to fruition when, on July 9, 1929, the hospital admitted its first patient. Marietta Memorial has responded through the years to the changing needs of the region, adding to its structure and services to meet the health care expectations of its patients. Today, the hospital and its affiliates offer a lifetime of care. At Memorial Health System, some amazing things happen each and every day. Not only are we touching hundreds of lives by the dedication, expertise and compassion of our people and their abiding commitment to quality patient care, but we enhance quality of life in other ways, too.
