I like Mauricio, and I really like the quote, I agree, but I will say that all art, all passionate forms of expression come with trials and tribulations. Be it dance, soccer, painting, writing, teaching, hell, just simply being human…all come with sacrifice, suffering, and giant waves of difficulty (the War Cloud) thus the name.
Known in Japan and across the world as the Kanagawa (great wave)
made famous by the Japanese wood block print created by artist Hokusai, during the Edo period. So life in general is like this. I like the Gomez quote more as a metaphor, which means life with or without Jiu-Jitsu, life can be frustrating, heart breaking, and down right hard, as stated.
There is a lot of suffering going on, inside many people, in many places, and not just how they are doing on the mats.
The Kanagawa looms over all of us. Keep training, keep breathing, keep helping others.
regardless of your form of expression,
build people up, don’t tear them down, teach with patience, write with purpose and passion, speak from the soul, lift spirits, don’t judge..not even yourself, in a negative way. Practice ‘silence and breathing first, you’re art and craft second, and fighting last.
don’t seek results,
seek happiness in the practice
and peace of mind.
"Jiu Jitsu is not for everyone, but it is for you, no doubt."-Mauricio Gomes BJJ 🥋🙏

Saturday grappling,After a traditional class of Old school Traditional Jiu-Jitsu/self defense techniques. I Shared some Arm lock and wrist lock concepts, that come from various Ryu in Japan, that date back to the 11th century.
Focus on Saturday was a technique called “Waki Gatame” (arm pit lock)
The class really enjoyed learning some of the old school foundation behind the Brazilian JiuJitsu movement we know today.
