3 Common Reasons Lake Shorelines Fail | Shoreline Erosion Explained
Exposed Roots
If you’re seeing exposed roots along your shoreline, it usually means soil has already eroded away. Roots can hold things for a while, but once they’re exposed the bank has already started failing.
Steep Banks
Steep shorelines erode faster because waves and rain hit the bank harder. Over time the soil starts sliding down toward the lake.
Undercut Banks
Undercutting happens when waves wash out the bottom of the bank first. That leaves the top hanging over the water until it eventually collapses.
This homeowner on Weaver Lake in Maple Grove had some serious erosion issues, and with zero road access, the only way in was straight across the ice. Sometimes you’ve just gotta get creative.
