Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Manitou Springs Pool & Fitness Center, 202 Manitou Ave., a parade of cyclists will gather before making their way west on Manitou Avenue during National Bike to School Day.
The group of staffers, parents and students will meet in the Schryver Park parking lot, then embark by 9:15 a.m., pedaling their way to Manitou Springs Elementary School. Students will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must wear helmets.
If you have a bike and would like to join the event, please plan on meeting Jessi Larsen at the parking lot.
Janie Anderson, the district’s safety and security director, traffic flaggers and the Manitou Springs Police Department will es**rt the group.
Parents can plan on taking bikes home after the ride or leave them in a designated roped-off area in the play park for after-school pick up.

This appeared in the April 26, 1948, issue of the Gazette.
“People of Manitou are thinking of changing the name of Deer Path to Stork Path if the birth rate of this street keeps up. Seven babies were born in one block in 15 months, all girls. Parents and daughter are: Mr. and Mrs. Max Wells – Carol Ann; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin McComb – Judy Ann; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cameron – Dea Ellen; Mr. and Mrs. William Worth – Kathleen; Mr. and Mrs. Coulter Rose – Maylene; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Decker – Patty Ann; and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Farmer – unnamed.”
And yes, those were the days that married women’s first names were rarely published. Boo!
