“Ya Zarif Al-Toul” is a traditional Palestinian that has been there for generations. It is a song in the spoken dialect about a young man who is described as “handsome, tall, young man”. These words were sung by many for decades in social and national events until it became a popular song in all countries of the Levant.
The story talks about a man called "Zarif Al-Toul" who was given this title. This young man lived in a village to which he was a stranger where he worked as a carpenter. "Zerif Al-Toul" was of high morals and all the girls in the village wanted to have a good relationship with him. The song tells the story when “Zarif Al-Toul” disappeared after an armed attack on the village. He was not found among the survivors or the martyrs. With time, “Zarif al-Tawl” became the village's song: “You of handsome length, stop so I could tell you! You're going to foreign lands but your land is better for you”. There are several versions of the story, and different people reported seeing in several other cities after many years. Today, it became clear that “Zarif Al-Toul” is living in each of us, so that the song remains alive.
"يا زريف\ظريف الطول" هي أغنية تراثية فلسطينية تتوارثها الأجيال، وهي أغنية باللهجة المحكية تتحدث عن شاب يوصف بأنه "ظريف الطول" أو كما تلفظ "زريف". تلك الكلمات تغنى بها الكثيرون منذ عقودٍ طويلة، وكانت تُردد دائماً في المناسبات الاجتماعية والوطنية حتى أصبحت معروفة عند جميع دول بلاد الشام.

يروي الأجداد، قصة "ظريف الطول" على أنه شاب ممشوق القوام أُطلق عليه هذا اللقب. أقام هذا الشاب في قرية كان غريباً عنها، وكان يعمل نجّاراً. "ظريف الطول" كان ذا خلق وكانت كل فتيات القرية يرغبن في التقرّب منه. تحكي الأغنية قصة اختفاء "ظريف الطول" بعد مواجهة مسلحة في قريته حيث لم يعثر له على أثر بين الأحياء أو الشهداء. مرّت الأيام وصار "ظريف الطول" أغنية القرية: "يا ظريف الطول وقف تاقولك.. رايح عالغربة بلادك أحسن لك". اختلفت الروايات وقال البعض أنهم رأوا ظريف الطول في عدة مدن أخرى بعد عدة سنين، ليتضح أن ظريف الطول هو في كل شخص منا لتبقى الأغنية تُردّد حتى اليوم.
