The Chapman Center is an undergraduate-research-based center designed to provide hands-on experience in doing the real work of historians. We are located in Leasure Hall in the heart of the Manhattan Kansas State University Campus; we moved into this newly renovated, five-room facility in January, 2011.

Happy National Prairie Day from the Chapman Center! 🌾
The Kansas prairie is the literal backdrop for the history we work to protect every day. From the forgotten settlements to the families who braved the elements, this land holds the true spirit of rural Kansas. Get outside and enjoy those massive, wide-open spaces today! 🌻📍

Here is this week's photo! It shows the Dodge City 50th Anniversary parade going south down Second Avenue and turning east on Chestnut Street (now Wyatt Earp Boulevard) on October 18, 1922. Hamilton "Ham" Bell is leading the parade on his horse (to the left of the two cars) in the lower center. Most of the buildings in the photograph are still standing but have been remodeled.
