My mother, brother and I were grocery shopping when I spotted a litter of puppies. I was around 5 then and knew that I..needed..that..puppy! I begged my mother, and what do all good mothers say when they want the answer to be yes?
“Ask your father”
I vividly remember how heavy the black payphone handle was in my small hands. I was in tears at the weight of my dad's decision. I needed that puppy!
I rambled, through wet tears ,my plea. My Mother must have known what she was doing, what father could resist their daughter? He, of course, said yes. I can still picture the ride home in our red Oldsmobile, my brother and I asking for the next turn to hold our new little treasure. We loved her, like all children do their first pet. We named her Pudgy. She saw us through grade school, high school and into college. She will forever be a wonderful memory of my childhood. She is my inspiration for my shop, happy, fun and light hearted…Oh Pudge! My mother has always had a big heart for animals (although I may have surpassed her into the “crazy zone”) she is the reason I have become such an animal lover. She also taught me the way around a sewing machine. In college, while getting my degree in Social Work, I picked sewing up again and really began my journey. A few years later I became a stay at home mom and needed an outlet to keep me sane from all the late nights and diaper changes. So, once again, I turned to sewing. I made gifts for friends and family, lovely baby dresses, quilts, lots of curtains and many more. My journey with Oh Pudge started when I couldn't find a collar I liked for my two shelties, they either stained their beautiful white coats or were too thick and would get tangled in their hair. It is also really hot here in Texas (not sure if you knew) and the bulky nylon collars made me sweat just looking at them. One day I decided to make my girls some fun fabric collars, popped them on and forgot about it. A few weeks later we boarded our dogs, one of the employees raved about the collars and how I needed to open my own Etsy account. Alright then, lets give it a go.
