Today is the last day of . For years now, I’ve wanted to say something. To make a post. To tell Luka’s story. But I haven’t been able to find the words.

I still don’t know what to say.

But I didn’t want one more year going by without adding my voice to the conversation.

I think the one thing I would want people to know about autism is that it shows up differently in each individual. Many people who’ve met my son have said that he doesn’t look like he has autism. Some people have even said that if he does have it, it’s probably pretty a mild case. I don’t think there’s such a thing.

What may not show up as “obvious” on the outside expresses nothing of what’s going on on the inside and challenge that it’s been navigating and understanding the world around him.

My son is another version of what autism looks like and I am so proud of who he is, how far he has come and who he is becoming.

I’m glad that over the years more people have become aware that autism exists. Now I pray for the day that more people become aware of how it shows up and what these individuals need so there can be more tolerance, understanding and compassion.

As we're in between Christmas and New Year's I want to debut Greicy's photos. The one thing I remember her saying when we booked the shoot was that it was a gift to herself. Now, looking at these photos, I know it truly was.

It was a beautiful experience seeing her blossom into her wildness, let go of all that was going on around her, and just be. Thank you Greicy for saying yes to yourself. May who you've become as a result of this shoot benefit generations to come.
