 You may not realize it from looking at this photo but there was a lot of struggle behind it...

The struggle of first contemplating whether or not to even go to the event where this art class took place. The struggle of worrying if I would even be accepted in a room full of strangers. The struggle of forgetting to pack my art supplies in my suitcase. Then rushing through the art store to quickly purchasing what I needed only to later realize I had purchased oil paint instead of acrylic .🤦‍♀️

Then the struggle of what to do.....

  Do I give into my negative thoughts and just not attend and live with the regrets of that?
No I chose to walk through the doors God openend for me.

Do I keep to myself because that's a safe place?
No  I chose to let myself be vulnerable and through that made connections with some of the most amazing creative women I've ever met .

Do i just give up and walk out of this art class because I'm a fool and brought oil paint to an acrylic paint layering class? 
Although that did run through my head and it would've been an easy out. No!  I chose to participate in doing what I could with what I had. Not wanting to ruin my paint brushes and knowing it was never going to dry, I painted everything with a large pallet knife. Layering paint over and over through Girl UPcycled Studio intuitive painting process. Starting out frustrated with a hot mess and slowly turning into something that slightly resembled a landscape. I could feel  all those negative feelings being lifted as I persevered. In the end I was left with a painting that wasn't pretty but was something I was proud of because I knew what it took to get there.

What do you do with just one nightstand?
You give it a loud makeover so it can stand on its own!
Using DIY Paint allowed me to create rustic texture and blend in an organic way that only a true artisan clay paint can. I was also exited to finally try out IOD - Iron Orchid Designs paint inlays. This one is called “Vida Flora” it’s a limited edition designed by the one and only Debi Beard of Debi's Design Diary. It comes with 8 sheets but I used only one for this project.
