It's and we're celebrating the students and staff at Ezekiel Gillespie Middle School! They recently organized a creative and compassionate fundraiser to benefit the animals in our care.

As part of the effort, classrooms participated in a door decorating competition, transforming hallways into colorful displays while raising awareness and collecting donations for homeless pets. In addition to donating a huge collection of in-kind items for the animals, the school raised more than $400 in monetary donations. Those funds can help DCHS purchase even more essential supplies, enrichment items, and care products for animals waiting for their new homes.

Thank you, Ezekiel Gillespie Middle School, for showing what a caring community can accomplish when it comes together to help animals in need!

Today’s Pet-entially Yours segment on News 3 Now / Channel 3000 featured an especially adorable guest: Periwinkle.

Periwinkle is a 2-month-old Border Collie mix who is friendly, affectionate, and very curious about the world around her. She may start off a little shy, but once she feels comfortable, her playful side starts to come out. Periwinkle came to DCHS on a transfer from an overcrowded shelter in Mississippi last week and is hoping to find a family who will continue her training, help her build confidence, and give her lots of love and treats.

Our Adoption Center opens at noon tomorrow (6/12), so stop by and ask to meet Periwinkle. She might just be your new best friend!

Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center is having a busy season so far! We’re grateful for everyone’s compassion and willingness to help wildlife. Before bringing an animal to the Wildlife Center, we're sharing their post of what steps to take first.

Thank you for helping us help wildlife!

A couple weeks ago we got 72 animals in one weekend (!) and almost all of those animals did not have an appointment. If you find a wild animal in need and do not know what to do, please follow our checklist below! ✅

First, give us a call at (608) 287-3235 and then leave a detailed voicemail.

We will call or text you back advice, a referral, or an admission appointment.

We understand how stressful it can be when you find a wild animal in need and are unsure of how to help, but it helps us immensely to have people call first before coming to the Wildlife Center. That way we can receive and give all the necessary information, and space out our admissions.

We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner to help in any way we can.

Thank you for caring for Wisconsin Wildlife! 🐾

It looks like we're in for some HOT days this week, so we wanted to provide a reminder of the dangers of excessive heat.

Even the healthiest pets can suffer from dehydration and heatstroke if exposed to extremely high temperatures and humidity. Make sure your pets are in a safe, cool location with plenty of water and never leave your pet alone inside a vehicle.

To keep your pet safe and healthy during the summer heat:

🌡️ Watch out for heatstroke
💧 Give your pet extra water
🧊 Offer your pet several ways to cool off
🚗 NEVER leave your pet alone inside a car
🌅 Take your walks in the morning or evening
🏡 Don't leave your dog alone outside for more than a few minutes
🐾 Avoid hot sidewalks
🪮 Brush your pet regularly
🚙 Be alert for coolant leaking from your vehicle
