Most dry cleaners still rely on petrochemical solvents. Around 70% use perc—a chemical classified by the EPA as toxic to both air and water, and a likely human carcinogen. Even “greener” options like hydrocarbon solvents are still VOCs that can irritate skin, eyes, and even impact the nervous system.

Some cleaners call these solvents “organic,” which is technically true… but so is gasoline.
