Often, there is a triggering event (loss of a loved one, a new job, marriage, divorce, retirement) that prompts someone to contact a financial adviser, and sometimes it's a triggering event that nudges us to make any changes in life.

Last week, Channel 3 in Madison contacted me to ask for an interview, and they wanted to film in my office. I realized it was finally time to get that painting on the wall that's just been waiting to be hung.

I present this piece by my friend Paul. Paul and I marched together in the University of Wisconsin Marching Band. When the pandemic began, he found that watching Bob Ross episodes helped to reduce his stress levels, and after a while, he thought that maybe he should give this painting thing a try.

This amazing piece is exactly what I wanted in my office. When life became challenging, Paul chose to do something to take care of himself and to try something new. By doing so, he created beauty.

Paul didn't know he had it in him, but he kept trying. These are the conversations I have with my clients during challenging times. This is the evolution we need sometimes. Sometimes it's the challenging times that can make us stronger and bring out the beauty.

My job as a financial adviser is to help you on your journey to achieve security and happiness. When people come to me, they think I'll be focused on their money, but what they might forget is that THEY are the client, not their money, and the goal is to find out what's most important to them and focus on that.
