On International Women’s Day in 1998, President Clinton issued an executive order on Steps to Combat Violence Against Women and Trafficking in Women and Girls, which directed the U.S. government to increase efforts domestically and partner with other countries to protect women and girls from trafficking. This was a prelude to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000 which officially addressed human trafficking as a federal crime.
While strides are made everyday, nearly 65% of the 10,949 cases of human trafficking reported to the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline in 2018 involved one or more female victims.
Collectively, let's work towards fighting the inequalities women face and challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements because an equal world is an enabled world.
