The proposed “Joshua Alert” law in Ohio is named in memory of six-year-old Joshua Al‑Lateef Jr. 🪽, a non-speaking child with autism who wandered away from his home and drowned in a nearby pond in 2024.

The legislation seeks to establish a specialized emergency alert system for missing children with autism or developmental disabilities—similar to an Amber Alert but tailored to cases where children are at high risk due to wandering or elopement.

The name “Joshua Alert” honors Joshua’s life and aims to ensure that his death leads to preventive action, giving urgent public notice and mobilizing communities when a vulnerable child goes missing. 🤍
