PBA Local 92 is upset to announce yet another officer resignation. Our second within the past week. Congratulations to Patrolman Alexis Cardeñas who has secured employment with a police department that also offers much better pay, opportunity, and is supported by the town’s administration. Patrolman Cardeñas was our newest hire transferring from the City of Paterson Police Department a year ago. He was awarded employee of the month this past April for his off-duty heroics while rescuing an unconscious motorist who was trapped in an overturned vehicle on Route 287. A friendly face known within Madison’s Hispanic community, Patrolman Cardeñas is now the 8th officer to leave the Madison Police Department since 2017. That leaves us with 3 unfilled vacancies, in addition to an officer who is away on military leave, and another who is out due to injury.

Local 92 has been without a contract since January 1st, 2022. A special shout out goes to the Madison Borough “Negotiation” Committee who do NOT believe there is a retention issue within the ranks of the police department. We continue our pursuit of a fair contract while better paying agencies are hiring daily throughout the state. Officer Cardeñas surely will not be the last to go. We are saddened to see you go Alex. Stay safe and best of luck to you with your new department.
