Mulch might not be the most exciting part of tree care, but it makes a bigger difference than most people realize.

A good layer of mulch helps the soil hold moisture during hot weather, keeps roots cooler, and reduces competition from weeds and grass around the base of the tree.
It can also help protect roots from temperature changes during extreme seasons.

Mulch should never be piled directly against the trunk. Those large “mulch volcanoes” you sometimes see can actually trap moisture against the bark and create problems over time. The goal is to create a wide, even layer around the base while leaving a little breathing room near the trunk itself.

Small maintenance habits like this can have a surprisingly big impact on long-term tree health. Need help with trees around your property? Request a free quote at 👉 https://www.graybrotherstreeservice.com/

We are a little behind on our Gray Way Giveback updates, and we wanted to share an important one with you.

Recently, we completed our Gray Way job for Carol Hudson, a two-time breast cancer survivor. Unfortunately, in the rush of things, we forgot to have the crew take photos of the project. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to help Carol and her family.

We have also selected our May Gray Way winner, Kristina Clinard. Kristina has been dealing with serious back problems while caring for her autistic son, Ian. She has also endured the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Abby, to non-small cell lung cancer years ago.

Our team will be completing Kristina's project as soon as possible, and we will be sure to share photos with everyone once the work is finished.

Please keep Kristina, Ian, and the memory of Abby in your thoughts and prayers.

We are also catching up on our schedule and will be announcing our June Gray Way winner very soon!

Thank you to everyone who continues to nominate deserving individuals and families. The Gray Way exists because of your support and because we believe in giving back to the communities that have supported us for so many years. ❤️

The Gray Way started with one simple idea: if we’re able to help someone in our community, we should. ❤️

Over the years, we’ve met families dealing with all kinds of difficult situations - illness, financial pressure, and unexpected hardship. And sometimes, right in the middle of everything else, there’s also a dangerous tree hanging over their home, driveway, or yard. For some families, tree work becomes one more thing they simply can’t afford to deal with.

That’s why each month, we provide free tree service to a local family in need through The Gray Way program. No strings attached, just neighbors helping neighbors. We believe strong communities are built by people looking out for each other.

If you know someone who could use a helping hand, we’d love for you to nominate them. And if you need tree work on your own property, our team is always here to help too. Request a free quote at https://www.graybrotherstreeservice.com/

Most people see the result of tree work - but not what goes into it. Before a single cut is made, a lot is happening behind the scenes.

Our crew looks at how the tree is growing, where the weight sits, what’s nearby, and how each section will move once it’s cut. Every decision is made with safety and control in mind. Christian remains hands-on in day-to-day work, and that experience shapes how every job is approached. After 25+ years, it’s not just about getting the tree down. It’s about doing it the right way from start to finish. 👍

That kind of planning might not always be visible, but it’s what protects your home, your yard, and everyone involved. If you want tree work done with care and experience behind it, we’re here to help. Call (478) 475-9021 for a free quote.
