Being in relationship with another human requires ongoing awareness, fine-tuning and practice, as well as a healthy dose of attunement and reflection if conditions are feeling out of balance or restrictive.

Sometimes, the lines can get blurry between two people, creating anxiety, stress and confusion.

And when that happens, enmeshment or codependency might be the culprit. Codependency is at play when one person in a relationship seeks his/her/their self-worth, significance and value from another person, likely due to past conditioning, trauma or wounding from childhood.

Conversely, interdependence is a more healthy expression of relationship where two individuals commune with one another by each cultivating their own self-concept and boundaries while investing in reciprocal communication, responsibility, accountability and care.

Signaling to our partners, friends, colleagues, etc. that we have a well-honed sense of inner worth and well-being fosters communication and connection that is clean, safe and trustworthy.

Codependence is a ticket to torment. Interdependence is essential to being human and together on this planet.
