The newest album from Sovereign Grace Music, Knowing God, is very special to me! It opened my eyes to a beautiful book, Knowing God by JI Packer, that has become very precious to me. I want to share a couple of my favorite quotes (though there are hundreds) - “Our God is a God who not merely restores, but takes up our mistakes and follies into His plan for us and brings good out of them.” God is ordaining all things: our sinful mistakes, trials, doubts, fears, and anxieties and orchestrating them for our good and, ultimately, His glory. How can it be? How faith-building it is!!

How, then, do we turn knowledge about God into knowledge of God? “The rule for doing this is demanding but simple. It is that we turn each truth that we learn about God into matter for meditation before God, leading to prayer and praise to God.” We aren’t just simply reciting truths about God- we engage with them, enjoy them, and live our lives in the good of His Word and the gospel we have received.

On the more “production side,” it has been a joy to Co-Produce this album alongside the very talented Ben Shive and see these songs from their earliest songwriter retreat demos to fully-produced arrangements. It is another unspeakable joy to be able to write songs for this record with Nathan Stiff (Sing, All Things, Run To Jesus, It Is Finished) and various other writers (We Are Yours Forever, The Steadfast Love of Christ, One Thing, Jesus, Our Judge and Our Savior). And the privilege to play drums and sing on this album is the cherry on top of the whole thing.

We pray that these songs will refresh your heart and soul and give you the words to sing when they are too difficult to speak out loud. May the Word of God and this precious book give you fresh affections for the Savior who took our sins and our sorrows and made them His very own.
