Electrical and Computer Engineering at UofL

Dear ECE Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Friends-
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Louisville Automation & Robotics Research Institute (LARRI) are excited to announce a robotics demonstration every Cardinal fan can enjoy: a quadruped robot conducting the Cardinal Marching Band! Normally, this kind of robot is used for research in locomotion and artificial intelligence, but on Friday night, it’s stepping into the spotlight to show off something entirely new at Friday night’s halftime show during the UofL-James Madison football game.

Watch closely as the four-legged robot, nicknamed the "ConDogtor" for the occasion, climbs the ramp, balances tall on two legs, and takes its place at center stage. The robot is the product of technological advancements in autonomous locomotion, artificial intelligence (AI), and reinforcement learning developed by ECE professor Dr. Jean Chagas-Vaz and Ph.D. student Jordan Dowdy.

This one-of-a-kind performance is more than entertainment ... it’s a celebration of UofL innovation, where engineering meets creativity, and the future of robotics is built. So let’s hear it for the UofL ECE Department, LARRI, and the "ConDogtor"... the newest Cardinal on the team!
