I (30F) am a first time home buyer. I noticed this morning that there was a termite drone in my kitchen sink, so naturally I panicked and decided to go up into the attic to see if there was a nest somewhere. What I saw instead was way more concerning. It looks like some of the roof beams are bending, and I need to know how concerned I should be and also who I would call to fix this because I am stressing out and have no idea what to do. Please help me 😭

What would this be ? It’s separated a little bit , and it’s caved in a little like it’s falling into the crawl space but it’s not falling , just noticed this the other day

We own a very old home in the PNW that, up until a bit ago, had a non working fireplace due to the fact that the flue was jammed and pretty much un jammable without extensive demo. We removed the chimney stack for good from the roof down through the second floor / to just above our first floor (it was taking up space on our upstairs floor plan and creating more problems than it was worth over all). All that is currently left is a fireplace which we would now like to place a gas insert into. We are debating the merits of a vented gas insert vs a ventless one. Our upstairs is still torn up so we can still route venting but we still want it to be minimal if we go that route, to avoid the problems we previously had with our chimney and floor plan. We don’t NEED it for heat but we want it to be cozy and for ambiance. I run cold and usually run an electric space heater for a bump in heat near me in the living room (same room as fireplace) in the winter. Either way whatever we get we would like whatever we get to be relatively efficient, quiet, and to put out some warmth without delay or have some temp control/ variability Overall we care a lot about aesthetics and since we have an old home, modern units will not jive with the overall traditional vibe that our house has…so with that we want logs, not glass or rocks, and we would love it to look as much like a “real fire fireplace” as much as possible but also don’t want it to come at a ridiculous price tag… maybe our expectations are unrealistic so we are looking for suggestions in either category of vented vs ventless. Safety’s obviously a concern as we have kids and animals… and I’m lost in the weeds on the pros and cons of either. There are measurement constraints of course, the existing space is about 30” wide, 27” tall. We went to a fireplace store but the guy was big time salesman and wasn’t interested in listening or helping us work through the different options. Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated.

Be honest, what did I screw badly? The tiles were originally laid directly onto drywall. The outside wall tiles were starting to lift due to water intrusion bad enough that water was leaking to the floor below (there's a vent below the tub drain, that's where the water through). Cement board on the shower head side. No signs of mold/rot during demo.I was quoted at 5k from our local tile company to do a full replacement. So wife and I decided to "rent" a decent tile saw from harbor freight and do it ourselves. Shluter board replacement all around. Paimei thinset. Some home depot discounted tiles 12x24. One weekend, 5 arguments, 3 glasses of wine, and 1 new bathroom later, we ended up with this. There's minor lippage in places, the worst being around the window. We tried to go cheap and not replace the corner trim. Our biggest mistake. We didnt want slivers so we started from the top and worked down. We didnt center the tiles on the shower head side just to make life easier with fewer cuts. We plan on repainting the entire bathroom soon, which is why thinset is still visible, but should be an easyish fix. Howd we do?

I'm in the midst of a remodel and there was a wall being removed that was stated as load bearing. It was my understanding that a beam would have to be placed here They built temp walls on either side of the double joist in the picture, spent several days cutting a 3 or foot section out, and then replaced it with what you see here. If this is load bearing, my brain can't comprehend how what they did can support the load. It looks as if now only one joist is supporting the load because of the gap/break in the joist they cut. So yes, an inspector is coming. The contractor did not expect one to come since permitting is not required in my location for a job of this cost. When I told the contractor that an inspector is coming for some reason they stopped all worked. In the meantime, I'd like to know what your opinion on this is?

Any ideas on how this should be sealed before new gutters go up?

I think it looks pretty good. What say the redditer’s?

Pulled off the old doorbell to install a SimpliSafe doorbell. Discovered this nice little void that has been drilled out on the siding. The white part is the new backing for the doorbell. What would you do to make sure the screws have something to hold the mounting bracket in place?

My plan is to PVA the bricks, then use bonding to 2/3mm before the wall line, then proudly put easi fill on top to sand I have never plastered anything before but im fairly handy.

Is this normal settling, or am I in trouble?
