On August 10, 2020, reports said a young black bear at Chipinque Ecological Park in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, Mexico was captured and neutered after a viral clip showed it standing up to sniff a woman’s hair as she posed for a photo.

The encounter looked harmless at first, with the bear appearing unusually comfortable around hikers and getting close without aggression.

The twist came after officials said the animal had become too accustomed to people, raising concerns that future encounters could turn dangerous as the bear grew larger.

Reporting said the bear, nicknamed “Chipi” by locals, was also expected to be relocated to an area with less human contact, and the neutering was described as a way to reduce territorial behavior and fighting risk in a new habitat.

The decision sparked backlash online, and Mexico’s environmental enforcement agency Profepa was reported to have ordered an investigation into how the neutering decision was made.

In late April 2019, a homeowner’s grandmother in Illinois spotted a baby red fox wandering onto her porch and peeking in through the window.

Golden retriever Polly had never barked in the middle of the night before. But when she suddenly started howling at 3am, owner Hannah knew something was terribly wrong with her husband Adam.

She discovered he was making the same gasping sounds she'd heard from patients during cardiac arrests when she worked as a carer. Hannah immediately called an ambulance and performed CPR for 10 minutes until paramedics arrived.

They shocked Adam's heart seven times before it stabilized. Doctors later diagnosed him with dilated cardiomyopathy. Both Polly and Hannah were honored as CPR Heroes at the British Heart Foundation's 2025 Heart Hero Awards. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Hannah and Polly," Adam said.
