Day 04 of foley.
Dialog gets all the attention, but it's the small sounds that do the quiet work of making a world believable. A boot pressing into wet leaves. The whisper of fabric as someone turns. A strand of hair brushing past a collar. A fingertip meeting glass. None of it is noticed, and that is exactly the point. We are building a world the audience can forget is built.
There's something almost tender about it. A grown adult on their knees in a dark room, crunching gravel by hand, listening for the truth in a footstep. It is slow, repetitive, sometimes maddening work. Most indie filmmakers skip it, and you can feel the absence even if you can't name it... a film that looks alive but doesn't quite breathe.
These are the sounds no one will ever thank us for. And that is why they matter. The real world is made of details too small to see, and so is a convincing one. You don't build a world by shouting. You build it one footstep, one rustle, one touch of glass at a time.
