LAPD has released body camera footage from the fatal shooting of Jameson, a 2-year-old Golden Saint Bernard Doodle, during a police response in Canoga Park.

The footage was posted under the title “Topanga Area OIS 6/13/26 (NRFO27-26),” a generic label that gives no indication a beloved family dog was killed. To many viewers, that naming convention makes it harder for the public to understand what actually happened without digging through the details.

Jameson’s death comes amid a larger national conversation about police encounters with pets. Estimates from the U.S. Department of Justice and police training experts have suggested that law enforcement officers kill thousands of dogs each year often cited as roughly 10,000 dogs annually, or about 30 per day nationwide.

Jameson wasn’t a statistic to his family. He had a name, a home, and people who loved him.
