Construction begins for 12 acres of park space below the Sixth Street Viaduct Just over one year after the Sixth Street Viaduct replacement made its debut, Los Angeles city officials have commenced work on 12 acres of new park spaces at the foot of the $588-million bridge.

Architect Rudy Baumfeld of Victor Gruen and Associates dreamed up the unique expressionistic shape of the 1959 City National Bank in Palm Springs, which now houses a Bank of America. The design was inspired by the 1954 Chapel Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France.
