A powerful day at the Los Angeles Su***de Prevention Network Summit at the Endowment Center last week. So pleased to see Nana Sarkodee-Adoo win the LASPN Hero Award for 2024. Proud to be there as the 2022 winner. Honored to meet Lois Bloom who lost her son in 1982. Lois and her husband, Sam, are founding Hero's among loss survivors. They worked as facilitators for other survivors and advocates for su***de prevention for more than 3 decades.

Today would have been Riley's 20th birthday. He’d be heading off to class at SMC, going to work, or spending time at the beach with his friends. I know that’s where they are today, and you should be with them. You should have graduated high school, experienced the thrill of your first love.

Instead, I’m left with photographs of your smile, frozen in time at 16. I can’t help but wonder—what would you look like today, on your 20th? What color would your hair be? What would you have worn? I still have all your clothes, as if holding on to them keeps you close.

It doesn’t get easier. In fact, it gets harder, as if the full weight of it hasn’t yet settled in, even four years later. I still find myself searching for you in familiar places, catching glimpses of you in the shadows. I miss you just as much as the day you left us.
