“On July 29th of this year, I turned the BIG 4-0 and honestly had just let myself go. I felt bloated all over 24/7 and tired morning, noon and night.

Then the day that changed my life…

On January 5th, I went in for my yearly check up with my primary Dr. and got some tough news. Walking into that appointment, I had been battling high blood pressure for 16 years, but now I was told I was prediabetic and had signs of a fatty liver. I had gained over 30 pounds in the last two years and honestly just felt awful. No energy, horrible eating habits and I never worked out.

I immediately began to research and change my diet. My Dr. put me on a low carb, under 60 a day, and no sugar diet. Sugar is definitely my weakness but I was determined to reverse these results and most importantly, just feel better. It’s important to tell you I have a hard time committing to hard things like working out and sticking to a diet. 2 weeks is usually my max and then I return to my bad habits.

Something was different this time though. When I left that Dr. appointment, I was filled with a lot of fear. My dad has all the same issues (high BP, diabetes, and more) and about 6 years ago he had to have open heart surgery. I could see my life headed down that same path and it scared me to death.

So BIG changes had to happen and I had to stick to them longterm.

In February, a new friend, Casie Lewis, walked through the doors of a class I teach at church and I began to ask her questions about where she worked out. From past experience, I know I’m not great at working out on my own either. I need someone to model/show me what to do AND encourage me along the way! These two things are key for me. Also, I need a gym that works well with my schedule. I need early mornings because of my kiddos.

The week of spring break, I decided to give it a try. I went for my first FREE class and I’d be lying if I told you it wasn’t tough. However, I needed to continue and figure out if I could make this work with my work schedule and my husband's. So, I decided to purchase the 10 session punch card. This was perfect for a trial run. After those 10 days, I was hooked. But could I continue after my 14 day/2 week limit?!?

YES!!!! I am still going strong. On April 1st, I went for my follow up with my Dr. after having some lab work done. Y’ALL…EVERYTHING was reversed and all my labs looked great! The most exciting thing though was getting to stop my blood pressure meds after 16 years! I have been off of them for almost 12 weeks now and feel amazing! Praise God!

What class did I join? I absolutely love going at 5:30am, even in the summer as a teacher!! Early mornings give me a boost of energy for the rest of my day. Casie once told me she loved the 5:30 morning class because those women mean business. And she’s right! They are hardcore, confident, strong women that challenge and push me to be better. Is it hard? Absolutely, but it is totally worth it! Paula’s encouragement and demonstrations are just what I needed. I am so thankful for the people God brought into my life during the last few months to help encourage me to start and continue my health journey.
