Cinderella Stories (Literary Ladies Series) 06/22/2015

Each day we read different versions of Cinderella’s story from different cultures and different view points. Artists designed their own ball gowns after learning about how to create them with special guest artist Caroline Walls. They also made their own a tiara/crown, a clay mouse, a magic wand and more. We learned about papermaking, marblizing, fashion design and sculpture! On the last day, they dressed up for the Royal Ball and High Tea. Special thanks to Caroline Walls and Jayelan Roberts for all their help this week! :)

Mr. Anup Art Day 06/09/2015

Friday, June 5th - Guest artist Anup Bhandari came to show us a few of his art techniques. He did a short demonstration and then let us try painting with string too! He created one expressionistic style face on eight canvases. Next, Mr. Anup painted a few details and added a mouth. We taped off shapes and the students colored inside the shapes with pastels. We put our "puzzle" back together for a group picture and each student took home a piece of the face, which ended up looking like an abstract expressionistic piece of art. Such a fabulous experience for all of us! Thank you so much Mr. Anup!

Anup Bhandari is an artist and philantrophist from Kilgore, Texas. He is well known not only for his unique artworks but also for his kind heart and his love for the area homeless. He offers free art classes to the homeless and then their art is shown at either the Longview Museum of Fine Art or the Longview Library. The art is auctioned off and half the money goes to the artist and half to Newgate Mission to help fund the art program and other programs for the homeless. He is always giving his artwork to be auctioned off by various organizations to help other causes as well. Currently his work will be auctioned at a fundraiser to help victims from the recent earthquake in Nepal.
