As temperatures and the heat index climb across New Hampshire, it's important to remember that our dogs are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Even a short walk on hot pavement or a few minutes in a parked car can quickly become life-threatening. Plan walks during the early morning or evening hours, provide plenty of fresh water and shade, and always check the pavement with the back of your hand. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog's paws. Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. A few simple precautions can help keep our four-legged family members safe all summer long.
Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Keep your dogs safe.
