Trans Awareness Week gives us a unique opportunity to educate and inform non trans folks about some very important facts regarding the trans community. This year it feels more important than ever (given the emerging political climate) to give credible information.

1. 98% of trans youth continue their transition into adulthood. Trans youth are insistent, consistent and persistent in their assertions of their gender identity. They do not waiver.

2. 86% of trans youth socially transition, and don’t begin medical GAC until after they are 18.

3. Less than 1% of trans folks detransition. Many that do end up transitioning again once they escape their family or community. The detransition rate long term is .3%.

4. Breast augmentation, BBL’s, Pec implants, hair plugs, electrolysis, makeup, weight lifting, etc are all examples of gender affirming care for non trans folks.

There is no requirement for you to participate in every disagreement you are invited to. Sometimes keeping your peace is more important than engagement. Sometimes living your authentic truth is the best way to prove people wrong. Give yourself permission to walk away. 🖤

Coming out is not a single event. It is a series of steps and discussions with different people in one’s life (family, friends, colleagues, etc.) that help lead you towards living a more authentic existence.
