Arkansas has historically been a leader in volunteerism during this three-month springtime effort by organizing an average of 300 events that involved more than 17,000 volunteers and 45,000 hours of donated time. Our state is graced with more than 1,000 species of wildflowers. Wildflowers help reduce maintenance costs, enhance wildlife habitats and preserve native plant populations, and they can be a stunning addition to your community's beautification efforts. Adopt-A-Highway
This Arkansas Department of Transportation program allows groups and individuals to "adopt" a section of Arkansas roadway by pledging to pick up trash and keep it free of litter. Voluntarily maintaining the roadways into and out of your community is another way to be involved in improving your community. Additionally, many communities offer citizens the opportunity to Adopt-A-Street or Adopt-A-Spot. Your local street department or parks and recreation department will have more information.
