Sometimes women get called “dramatic”…when they’re actually just overwhelmed.

Feeling exhausted, anxious, irritable, foggy, or physically tense isn’t you overreacting, it can be your mind and body asking for support.
A lot of women are carrying things no one else can see. Managing schedules, remembering everything, taking care of others, keeping relationships running, switching between roles all day long. It adds up. And even when everything looks fine on the outside, your brain may never really get a break.

So when it starts to feel like “too much,” that doesn’t mean you’re being dramatic. It means your system is overloaded. We’ve been taught to label women’s distress as “too emotional” instead of recognizing it for what it often is - stress, burnout, and depletion. Listening to yourself isn’t overreacting. It’s paying attention. And it’s how you start taking care of your mental health.

Adult ADHD doesn’t always look like bouncing-off-the-walls energy. In adults, it often shows up as time blindness, overwhelm, task paralysis, forgetfulness, emotional reactivity, and chronic “why can’t I just do it?”

ADHD can present differently in women and men (because of social expectations, masking, and hormones).

Women are more likely to internalize it: overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, anxiety, burnout, and working twice as hard to appear “fine.” Men are more likely to show more external signs: visible restlessness, impulsivity, risk-taking, frustration, or workplace follow-through issues.

The takeaway: ADHD is a pattern + impairment.
