More people believe in prayer than they realize. What do you think?

The Torah claims that "God chose [the Jews] to be His treasured people from amongst all the nations on earth." But it isn't that simple.

Being chosen is conditional, as the Torah also says: "If you listen to my voice and guard my covenant... you will be to me a nation of leaders and a holy people".

Being a "nation of leaders and a holy people" is earned. It comes from embracing Jewish values - like the respect for human life, peace, justice and equality, education, the centrality of family, and social responsibility - and, more importantly, living them.

That's what "listening to my voice and guarding my covenant" means. It's not magic. Being chosen is a responsibility. It's what happens when you embrace the Torah's agenda, and live those ideals that are at the heart of being a Jew.
