Day 12: “Developing Your Friendship with God.”

“Point to Ponder: l’m as close to God as I choose to be.”

“Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.” James 4:8A (NLT)

I secured my salvation with Christ many many many years ago… but I’ve also been a lukewarm Christian for most of my life as well. I don’t remember ever not having the knowledge that there was a God that loved me beyond the measure that of any human heart would be capable. However, I have fallen prey to the many distractions in life that pulled me away from obtaining the kind of relationship I have with Him now. I am so beyond grateful for this relationship… that no matter how distracted I get, how many mistakes I make, how many times I turn my back He still remains.

What changed for me though is the real message here. I stopped relying on myself to be a better Christian and stopped punishing myself when I forgot to read the Bible. I started asking God to put the desire in me to know him more. I asked him to reveal to me the things that stood in my way. I asked him to help me to effective in my study when I took the time. I asked him to help me to be a light in the world for him.

I could shout it from the rooftops… When what you want is in line with God’s will, YOU CAN BE SURE HE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN! He wants to be close to you.

You want to be better about reading the Bible? Great ask him! But be forewarned that you will do crazy things like read all 4 gospels in 4 days. He is so funny that way.

If you want to be back in church, ask him to help you have the desire. But also be forewarned because he will give you an entire family that love and want you around.

If you want to deepen your prayer life, ASK HIM! But be forewarned that God’s definition of prayer doesn’t look like ours. Sometimes it is as simple as, instead of talking to yourself for expert advice you’ll start talking to God constantly. Because what better expert to consult that the MAKER himself!

Friends, drawing close to God is a personal choice. But don’t feel like you are alone in the legwork. God wants to be your strength.

“Question to Consider: What personal choices will I make today in order to grow closer to God?”
