When Hurricane Ivan tore through Alabama in 2004, it left lasting damage across Little River State Forest — a 2,100-acre longleaf pine ecosystem known for its scenic trails, fishing spots, campsites, and wildlife habitat.
Nearly two decades ago, 50,000 longleaf pine trees were planted across two major sections of the forest, helping restore acres that had yet to recover from the storm. The before-and-after video featured in this post highlights just one parcel of this larger restoration effort, showing the remarkable transformation over time. These trees are rebuilding habitat, strengthening forest health, and bringing new life back to a landscape treasured by both wildlife and visitors.
