Not sure what I did different. I put the battery in, pumped the throttle and saw fuel squirting out. I advanced the timing a little bit and it started up. I ran it for a few minutes. I got a little nervous that the thermostat might not be opening up. Unfortunately I think there might be some issues with the outdrive.

the motor is finally bolted into the boat. I am slowly getting all the hoses and wiring sorted out. I didn’t remove this engine and have never worked on a boat.
There is a shift linkage that i believe is supposed to interrupt spark when shifted between forward and reverse. no idea yet where that mounts. I have a mystery plug that goes to something I can’t find. It has a few pins and the distributor wiring goes to it, so probably pretty important.
I don’t even know if this motor will run, and I have a ton of stuff to figure out before I can try it.
