A short animation from a recent matter involving visibility and perception response in a left-turn across-path (LTAP) incident we worked on for the past couple of years. We brought out many tools in the toolkit. We did some brake testing and drive-throughs with the SCENEPRO LTD CI-200 TS, basic hand calcs, including crush and momentum, followed up with simulation using Virtual Crash 5, and at the end some human factors assessment with Crash Safety Solutions, LLC I.DRR. The site was extensively mapped from the ground and the air to create the environment and accurately recreate potential visibility obstructions. We would have preferred to inspect the subject vehicles, but they were destroyed long before we got involved. Thankfully, there were several photos of each vehicle to work with. Big shout out to our Senior Analyst James Moody for digging deep on this one.
