Hay Rice & Associates, Chartered CPA

Liberal sophomore swimmer Jyzelle Juarez is this week’s Hay Rice & Associates, Athlete of the Week. Juarez set school records at last week’s meet in Newton in the 50 free (29.17) and the 200 free (2:40.71). She also owns the school record in the 100 free at 1:09 from last year. She is also a key member of the medley relay, the 400 relay, and the 200 relay. Jyzelle is also involved in Liberal High School’s choir and painting club. Juarez and the Lady Red swim team competes at the WAC swim meet at Garden City on Thursday.

Liberal sophomore thrower Maliyah Mullens is this week’s Hay Rice & Associates, Athlete of the Week. Mullens won the shot put at 34-9.50 and the discus at 103-3 at the Liberal Invitational Friday at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex. Mullens helped the Liberal girls to win their second straight meet with 158 points. Mullens also plays basketball and is a member of Liberal High School’s FFA. Mullens and the track team compete at Laverne today.

Liberal freshman bowler Sam King is this week’s Hay Rice & Associates, Athlete of the Week. King bowled a 656 series last week in helping the Redskins gain 10 WAC points against Garden City. King’s 656 series is an LHS freshman record. He placed first place at the event which also included Holcomb. King was second in a meet with Hays and Holcomb at LHS. His season high is a 232 at Northrock in Liberal earlier this season. King and the Redskins host Dodge City and Holcomb Tuesday at 1pm at Billy’s Ayr Lanes. Congratulations, Sam!

Liberal senior guard Kylie Rhine is this week’s Hay Rice & Associates, Athlete of the Week. Rhine averages 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals per game for the 11-2 Liberal Lady Redskins. She knocked down seven three pointers and scored a career high 22 points Friday in Liberal’s win over Pratt in the Big House. Rhine has signed to play basketball as Sterling. Rhine is also involved in track, NHS, and FCA. Rhine is also a homecoming queen candidate. Liberal hosts Great Bend for their homecoming game Friday night at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
