It’s going to feel like summer this weekend across Western Montana and North-Central Idaho, but our rivers are still transporting large amounts of snowmelt!

With air temperatures climbing into the 80s and near 90 degrees, it’s tempting to hit the water to cool off. But don't let the hot air fool you, water temperatures are sitting in the 40s and 50s.

Jumping into water this cold can instantly trigger cold-water shock, paralyzing your muscles and making self-rescue nearly impossible, even for strong and experienced swimmers. Add in dangerously fast currents and hidden debris, and our waterways are incredibly hazardous right now.

If you're heading out:
✅ WEAR your life jacket (don't just pack it).
✅ STAY BACK from slippery riverbanks.
✅ KEEP a close eye on kids and pets.
