As Juneteenth approaches, Bluegrass DSA invites you to join us at 3pm Saturday, June 13th for our Pre-Juneteenth Educational Speaking Engagement with Attica Scott 🌹
This event is a focused learning opportunity for topics such as The History of Juneteenth, Labor History in Relation to Slavery, and Black Organizing History in America.
Kentucky community organizer/activist/politician Attica Scott () will be at the union hall for a brief lecture and Q&A session.
We will be providing brochures of educational materials (books, podcasts, documentaries) curated by UofL Pan-African Studies Professor Dr. Story () and Attica Scott for attendees.

We were so happy to see so many comrades old and new at Lexington Pride!! 🌈🌹
As we celebrate and appreciate the safety and community we have today, let's also keep fresh in our minds the fact that the first Pride was a riot! What was true then, in a New York City bar in June of 1969, is still true today, in Lexington and beyond: Q***r and Trans liberation cannot happen without the fundamental restructuring of the systems that seek to either erase or profit off of the LGBTQ+ community. 🫂🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
If you are hungry for that kind of change and liberation, and you're ready to get involved in making it happen, keep an eye out for our upcoming events and meetings!! 🌹

Last Friday, Bluegrass DSA helped organize and tabled at the May Day event held in front the Lexington courthouse. 🌹
Co-Chair Noah Cornett spoke on the history of the holiday, Kentucky’s deep roots in class struggle, and the importance of real solidarity. ✊
A massive thanks to all the members who helped table, all the union organizers who spoke, and the fighters who came before us to build a better world.
We must now continue their struggle.
Solidarity Forever 🎶
This May Day, Bluegrass DSA co-chair Noah Cornett spoke to the crowd in Lexington on the history of the holiday, Kentucky’s strong roots in class struggle, and the importance of Solidarity. ✊✊
A huge thanks to those who showed up to commemorate the fighters who came before, and celebrate those who are fighting today.

On May 1st, 1886, more than 300,000 workers from over 13,000 businesses across the country went on strike to fight for the 8 hour work day. Three days later, in protest of police violence against striking workers, and in support of the 8 hour day, thousands of workers met at Haymarket Square in Chicago to demand justice.
After a bomb was detonated, the police opened fire on the crowd of protestors, murdering seven and injuring 40 more. In the months that followed, eight organizers were unjustly arrested, falsely convicted, and four were executed.
In 1889 the Second International, a meeting of socialist parties and labor organizations from around the world, announced that May 1st would be “International Workers’ Day”, to celebrate the general strike and show support for those martyred in Chicago.
So this Friday, May 1st, we ask for you to join us at the Lexington Courthouse Plaza (120 N Limestone) from 4:30-6:30 PM.
Meet your local unions, build organizational power, and stand in solidarity with your fellow workers.🌹
