On Friday, October 31, 2025, our lab attended the 2025 Markesberry Symposium. Osswaah Fariduddin, Stirling Crawford, and Liz Rock presented some of the latest findings from our ongoing research projects and community outreach program. Osswaah presented our results showing that the experience of everyday discrimination moderates the relationship between slow-wave sleep and cognition in Black Americans. Stirling presented on the impact of depressive symptoms on sleep and memory in Black Americans. Liz’s presentation showed how community engaged activities can be leveraged to promote research participant among displaced older adults. Thank you to the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging for hosting such a meaningful event.

On October 26, 2024, our lab will participate in a workshop on how civic disengagement can be an (in)direct risk factor for dementia in immigrant and refugee communities. We hope to see you there!
