I know a lot of people (individuals and business owners alike) are concerned about the weather forecast in Central KY for the next 48 hours or so. If you are so inclined to have an emergency kit (flashlight, snacks, cash, spare batteries, etc.) you might want to add the following items to that kit: Your agent's contact information (office and cell), your insurance policy info - for each insurer - name of insurer, policy numbers and emergency claims number. If for some reason you have an incident and cannot reach your agent (no power, no office phones, etc), you can still use your cell phone to call your claim into your insurance company as quickly as possible. Also, make sure that your cell phone has an adapter that allows you to charge it in your car in case you need to do that.

Insuring your business correctly can be your last line of defense when it comes to protecting your livelihood. Being good at your work is just the start. You then need to make sure that your employees, sub contractors and business partners are also good at what they do and that everyone is vigilant at doing the right thing to protect yourselves and others. One mistake along the line can cause issues. Make sure that your commercial insurance program meets your current needs.

"It will never happen to me" or "It will never happen" or "I sail under a lucky star". These are all attitudes that I, as a commercial property & casualty insurance agent, face on a constant basis. It's hard to battle the logic "it's never happened to me, so it will never happen to me" if somebody truly believes what she/he is saying. I usually explain that there is a first time for everything - experiences, new places, new foods and so on. There is also a first time for "bad things happening that cause claims". Nobody likes to be the bearer of bad news, but bad things will eventually happen. If they do happen, you have to be prepared - not only with a smart insurance program, but also with smart management to your business and operations, Reduce your risks. Don't allow your employees or sub contractors to take shortcuts around safety.
