Families of special needs teens often forgo libraries for a range of reasons, including behavioral concerns. Those are the families that can get the most from the library (Gibson, et al, 2017). The public library is an ideal location to start learning about interactions for these patrons since the space is designed for experimenting with social interactions. Children and teens learn how to interact and can rehearse and refine behavior to grow emotionally. Also, frequent library visits offer an ideal opportunity for children who are struggling with emerging literacy to discuss questions, learn novel content, and become acquainted with books.
