For San Francisco Giants pitcher Hayden Birdsong, everything changed in the middle of a single inning.

One moment he was competing for a spot in the team’s bullpen during Spring Training. The next, he felt an unexpected discomfort in his arm while throwing a curveball — a moment that instantly raised concern.

Now the young right-hander finds himself waiting for answers.

Birdsong has already undergone an MRI and is seeking a second medical opinion to determine exactly what caused the issue. While forearm discomfort can sometimes lead to more serious elbow problems for pitchers, Birdsong remains cautiously optimistic that his situation may only require a short recovery.
