You want to post on social media more, but you don’t know what to post?
I hear this question a lot from therapists.
You want to grow your social media following and bring in more clients to your practice.
You understand that being consistent on social media is key in building an online presence.
But what should you be posting about?
Here’s one simple exercise that you can use to generate a lot of new social media posts!
When creating content for social media, think about your ideal client.
What issues do they have? Write out all of the potential problems that they may be facing/will face.
Then, start answering these problems by creating posts that provide them with valuable and tangible things they can do on their own to help elevate some of the pain from the issues they’re facing.
For example, maybe your client suffers from extreme loneliness and depression due to covid.
You could give them tips such as video chatting with friends, taking a walk outside, encouraging them to start a new hobby, etc.
Even the simplest of advice can go a long way with someone. You don’t have to ‘treat’ your audience to be able to add value to them.
If you put in some effort, this alone could give you weeks worth of content.
Some other great content ideas are:
- Inspiration quotes
- Talk about the specific areas in which you treat
- Talk about a day in the life of someone struggling with ____
- Tips and tricks to help someone struggling with ________
- Why therapy is important
- How your approach is different
- What a client can expect when working with you
- How to get started in therapy
- How to find the right therapist
- Motivational/encouraging posts
- Talk about the transformation you take your clients through
(i.e., from depressed and unmotivated to thriving and productive)
- Share lifestyle things as you see appropriate
- Talk about teletherapy and the benefits
- Discuss covid-19 and ways to reduce stress and anxiety around it
It’s best to sit down for an hour or two each week/month and create your content in bulk.
This way you’re focused on one task, and you will have content for the foreseeable future without having to squeeze it in every day.
Did this give you any new ideas for creating social media content? Do you have a unique way you come up with content?
I’d love to hear all about it in the comments!

It’s growth tip Thursday! Every Thursday we share tips and tricks to help your Private Practice grow.
Today’s tip is about how to make a little extra cash by subletting your office space.
As the Covid-19 vaccine becomes more available across the country, more and more therapists are going back to doing in-person sessions.
A lot of people lost their office space during the pandemic and are looking for a place to see clients.
One of the easiest ways you can generate more income in your practice is by subletting your office on the days that you aren’t using it.
It’s pretty simple. You pick your desired schedule and then you create a list of the days/times that it would be available for someone else to rent, and then advertise it to your local therapists!
This can help to pay part of or maybe even all of the rent on your office space!
We recommend having a legal contract in place to protect everyone involved.
You’ll want to ensure that this contract has specific terms and outlines when he/she may use the office.
Be sure to check with your current contract to make sure that your lease allows you to sublet if you don’t own your space.
