On Wednesday, Apil 29th, Professor Mike Owen gave his final lecture at LC. He has spent the last 35 years as an instructor in the CTE program, and the last two years in the Humanities Division. During the lecture, the room was filled with faculty, sharing many memories of their time with Owen, and students (both past and present). Owen gave a wonderful lecture on the future of education and technology. At the end, he received a standing ovation from everyone in the room!

Thank you, Mike Owen, for your dedication to student learning. You have truly made an impact on everyone.

Graduate Highlight! 🎓

Communications major and Nonprofit Management minor, Nancy Jones is graduating! She hopes to use her degrees to support her current position and help serve her community.

✨Were there any trips/class activities that she participated in that she really enjoyed?
“The three core classes for the Nonprofit Management minor were AMAZING. Each required partnering with a local nonprofit agency for completion of a hands-on project. It's a chance to meet local people doing incredible work and to create something real to support them. It wasn't easy but it was so rewarding!”

✨How would she describe her time as an LC Humanities student?
“Returning to college was hard but my advisor and professors made me feel supported and encouraged. I learned so much that is truly applicable in the real world. LC was wonderful.”

✨Is there anyone she would like to thank?
“My advisor, Ben Morton, is THE reason I now have my degree, and I can't thank him enough. His knowledge of the Communications program is deep and he's passionate about the work. He's also real about the challenges students face. When I faced a personal situation that impacted everything in my life, he helped me navigate how to keep my classes on track. His support was critical. I also want to thank my family and my best friend. They absolutely walked every minute of this long journey with me.”

Her daughter will receive her associate's degree the same day that Nancy would receive her Bachelor’s. “That’s huge when my dad didn’t even graduate high school. I am thankful to LCSC for the support that made it happen.”

Congratulations, Nancy! We cannot wait to see where you will go.
