We want to see the good news of Jesus reach into the center of our lives and reach out into others' lives. We meet on Sunday mornings from 10-11:15 at the Thompson Barn, 11184 Lackman Road in Lenexa, Kansas. We welcome visitors.

Jesus Our Joy 12/16/2024

Advent, week three: Jesus is our Joy.
What is joy in the first place, though--and then what does it mean that Jesus *is* our joy? As David Cato shared this past Sunday, Christian joy is an emotional response rooted in the finished work of Jesus; it is the settled assurance that God is in control and that ultimately everything will be all right, and, from that assurance, the determined choice to praise God in every circumstance. Click the link below to listen to David's sermon from Isaiah 9:3-4 and Luke 2:8-14 (you can also find all of this Advent's sermons via the Resources link on our website).

Jesus Our Joy David says in Psalm 4:7, “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.” So says Isaiah of God’s coming Messiah: “… you have increased [the nation’s] joy; they rejoice before You as with joy at the harvest…” Security and spiritual prosperity are o...

Jesus Our Peace 12/12/2024

This past Sunday we marked the second week of Advent with a look at how Jesus is our peace. At Christmastime especially, it's easy to think of this peace in terms of calm and quiet, or perhaps view "peace on earth, goodwill toward men" as the herald of cultural or political peace. But as Blaine Freidline shared from Isaiah 9:6-7 and Luke 2:1-7, the peace that Jesus came to bring was far more radical and earth-shattering than anyone's idea of peace; He came to bring -- to be -- peace between God and wayward humankind. Now that is truly something worth celebrating!

You can listen to the sermon at the link below and find all of this year's Advent sermons on our website's Resources page.

Jesus Our Peace Jesus is the Prince of Peace, making possible peace with God, and its extension, peace with one another.

Advent, the season leading up to Christmas Day, started this past Sunday, and this year our sermon series examines the four traditional themes of Advent -- Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love -- and how Christ embodies each of these for us. We're also including a special related Bible story for kids each week. You can listen to week 1's sermon from Johnny Vanderhorst, "Christ Our Hope," at the link below.

Put on the New Self 10/21/2024

When you have “put on” your new self, that self with “Christ in you,” what do you look like? Incredibly, you look like Jesus—in character, in love, in peace, in “incarnating” the Word of God, in hearty singing with thankfulness, in doing everything you do in Jesus’ name! “Lord, make it so in each of us.”

Put on the New Self In light of all Paul has explained about the nature of Christ and the extent of His work, what we are to do in response is of critical importance.1. Because of who you are ...2. Put on a heart ...How?--See it.--Receive it.--Share it.3. With love, peace, thanksgiving.4. Let the gospel dwell in you ri...

Seeking the Things Above 10/08/2024

In light of the riches we have in Christ as described in Colossians chapters 1–2, how shall we live? Here at the beginning of chapter 3, we see how Paul lays that out: to begin, set your mind on the things of Christ in the heavenly realm and let Him direct in the use of things on earth. The heavenlies is our eternal home!

Seeking the Things Above Colossians 3:1–4If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who...

"Christ in you" -- what does the Apostle Paul mean by this? How can we tell whether Christ is in us ... or we are in Christ? Blaine Freidline continued our series through Colossians last Sunday with a look at Colossians 1:24-2:5 and "the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to His saints." Listen at the link below, and find all the sermons from this series on our website:
