My kids had never been on a real train before, so this was the perfect way to enjoy a fun and easy ride together. Head to Abilene, KS, to board the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad! Be sure to arrive early to buy your tickets, or you can purchase them online ($15-$20). If you’re a Kansas resident, you can ride for FREE with the Sunflower Summer App until August 11, 2024. Pro tip: Use the restroom at the depot before boarding, as there are no restrooms on the train. You can choose between an enclosed, air-conditioned train car or an open-air gondola car. After a 30-minute layover in Enterprise, KS, you can swap seats if you like. During the layover, visit the Hoffman Mill, grab a snack or drink, use the restroom, and check out the flour milling machine. Don’t miss the chance to ride aboard the engine during its rotation at the layover! Then, you’ll head back to Abilene to complete your trip. Kansas residents, make sure to visit soon!
