Summer weddings are beautiful, but as a cake maker, full of anxiety. Below are some extra details to remember when planning your summer wedding cake:
1) Delivery time: most summer weddings have receptions taking place outside. If you’re having a wedding cake put on display, do not plan to have it delivered (or put out) more than an hour before it’s to be cut. Also, ask your planner to ensure that the cake table is not in direct sunlight.
2) Florals and decoration: when these are being added upon delivery, it’s very important that they are made readily available. It is much safer, and easier, to add florals to a cake that is still chilled and stable. The longer a cake sits out, the harder it is to decorate it and/or move it.
3) Please respect the vendor’s time. Delivery times are crucial to the success of a wedding cake order. If a delivery time is agreed upon, I should be able to deliver, decorate if necessary, and leave in a reasonable amount of time. I should not be expected to sit around with a cake waiting for decorations that were supposed to be waiting for me. The risk of a cake falling apart in transportation increases the longer it sits out.
4) Communicate clearly with your vendors. It may not seem important to have all of your vendors in sync as separate businesses, but it is actually one of the most important. Hiring a planner who prioritizes coordination with not just yourself, but with vendors, is crucial to the wedding day success.
